Hats

Hats Of A Teacher

A teacher wears many hats in their career. The first hat worn is in college when they are going through teacher training. That is the hat of a student. You sit in your classes taking copious notes and absorbing all that you can in hopes that it will make you the best possible teacher you can be.  Some of the things you agree with some of them  you do not. There are all those classes on theory, behavior, classroom management, math, language arts which are all well and good. Having sat through all of them myself I found myself wondering just how much these professors remembered what it was like in an actual classroom. I was in teacher training long before blogs were invented, long before Facebook and all that is social media was around. As I look back I think very few of my professors in college really understood what it was like to be in a classroom anymore. I remember my classmates saying something at the time but I didn't pay too  much attention as I was busy doing all the work that went with being in the program. Now though I look back and think they were probably right. The reality of the classroom is much different than what you learn about in college. Do programs really prepare their students to be teachers? I think some do and I think some don't.
